Abstract
Oscillation and oscillation frequency are two concepts widely accepted, not only in engineering and in many other disciplines, but also in our daily lives. We know that many natural phenomena which exhibit oscillations, for example, the rotation of the planet, moon phases, among others. Some oscillations are, however, something odd, or irregular, for example, the come and go of wave sea, the movement (tremor) of the earth during an earthquake, and many more. A useful tool to represent the frequency content of a signal is the Fourier transform. However, this tool is not enough if the signal to be analyzed is not stationary, ie, if its characteristics (statistics and frequency) change with time. This paper presents a suitable tool to analyze such signals, the wavelet transform, or also known by its English name as wavelet.
