Abstract

In recent years, vehicle automation has been one of the activities on which the automotive industry has focused on with the objective of creating a more friendly and safer driving environment for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. This article focuses on one automation task: pedestrian detection. A computer vision-based mechanism for pedestrian detection within a road driving environment is presented. The results obtained by applying the mechanism showed a high accuracy in the detection and identification of pedestrians, which contributes to the vehicle automation process.
