Vacant urban lands in the north of the city of Colima

Abstract
Urban vacant land are a land area within the urban layout of cities that has no buildings and has not been used properly. This phenomenon develops in growing cities all over the planet, the lack of regularization and territorial ordering has led to the appearance of these intra-urban gaps. This research analyzes a representative group of vacant lots found in the northern part of the city of Colima to analyze their quantitative and qualitative characteristics to understand their growth and direct dynamism with the rest of the city. The project was carried out based on the existing cartography on vacant urban lands made in 2012 by the Planning Institute for the municipality of Colima (IPCO) and some updates through population and housing censuses carried out by the National Institute of Statistics. and Geography (INEGI). The results show that 58.75% of vacant urban lands found within the study area belong to type H3, which refers to space capable of new housing with medium density. This work shows quantitative and qualitative elements necessary to carry out future research on a situation that affects many growing cities around the world. This research proposes an approach to the study of this phenomenon to promote and value the development of more orderly and compact cities.
