Quantification system of mechanical vibrations using a CCD transducer

Abstract
In this article, a methodology is presented to obtain the temporal displacement and the frequency spectrum corresponding to a mechanical vibration. The main work contribution consists in the implementation of an optical transducer, as part of the machinery failure prediction system. The proposed methodology consists of the following steps: video acquisition, image extraction, gray conversion, thresholding, filtering, labeling, pattern extraction, storage, frequency domain conversion, and graphical presentation of the results. As results, the temporal displacement and the characteristic frequency spectrum of a mechanical failure due to imbalance are obtained through image analysis.
