Abstract

This paper presents the configuration of a Xilinx MicroBlaze embedded system on an FPGA and programming of a software module in C that acts as a command and control of sensors and actuators for a Mobile Robot. At present there is a demand for autonomous mobile robots in various application fields such as transport of materials, cleaning, monitoring, guiding people and military applications. These mobile robots must interact with their environment to accomplish their tasks; this environment may be subject to change settings and contingencies. This paper addresses a part of the problem of navigation of a Mobile Robot, specifically to avoid the obstacles. To solve this problem, we propose to use an embedded system in FPGA, we use the configuration of a MicroBlaze processing system within the FPGA Spartan 3AN series from Xilinx, which can integrate and configure many different devices and digital processing in real time on a single module of the mobile robot.
