Design and construction of a 1 kW horizontal-axis wind generator

Abstract

It is presented the design and construction of a three-phase wind generator prototype, for battery charging purposes, using a horizontal-axis wind turbine, and an axial-flux electric generator with permanent magnets (NdFeB). The prototype was designed with 1 kW nominal power at 67 Vac per phase, running at 458 rpm when the wind speed is 12 m/s. The generator was tested under different rotational speeds and electric loads to know its performance. The wind system was able to supply, in average, 1.5 kWh/day during several testing days.
